Lunch at Loco’l Feb 2017

February 19, 2017

Lore, Nancy and Angie went on a foodie adventure to Roy Choi’s LOCO’L at 103rd and Wilmington to enjoy some healthy fast food in Watts.  The venue was very fun, naturally air conditioned with screening rather than windows, lively music, fun art, and a simple limited menu of burgers, pizza, homemade chips, interesting sides, organic soft service ice cream.  It was clean, tidy, and welcoming–even a concierge at the door.  We had burgers, egg in the hole sandwich, greens, messy slaw, chips, aqua frescos, coffee, and vanilla and chocolate swirl.  Yum.  Such a treat to be served good food imagined by renowned Chefs Roy Choi and David Patterson.

A word of caution:  The foods, while delicious and freshly prepared, do contain salt and sugar.  The aqua frescas are full of sugars, not sure if just natural fruit or added sugars.  The coffee comes black or sweet and creamy. This means that there is sugar in the cream!  It is delicious, but sugary.

It was a memorable experience that we highly recommend.  Prices are very reasonable and quantity of food is very good. Seating is minimalist with movable block tables and block seats.  Street parking is ample.  Staff is friendly and enthusiastic.

After our meal we drove over to Watts Towers for a revisit.  There were tours being conducted.  The atmosphere was pleasant and there were lots of informative signs to give the viewer background information about Simon Rodia’s masterpiece.

Great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!
